Here’s Why One 18-inch Pizza has More ‘Pizza’ than Two 12-inch Pizzas

It’s very simple and can be done using basic math!

Calculate the area of the 18-inch radius pizza:

A = πr²

A = 3.14 * 1⁸²

A = 3.14 * 324

A = 1017.76

A ≈ 254 square inches

(since we’re only considering the area of the pizza and not the crust, we can round down to the nearest whole number)

Calculate the area of each of the two 12-inch radius pizzas:

A = πr²

A = 3.14 * 1²²

A = 3.14 * 144

A = 452.16

A ≈ 113 square inches per pizza

(rounded down to the nearest whole number)

Calculate the combined area of the two 12-inch radius pizzas: 113 square inches pizza * 2 pizzas = 226 square inches.

So, the one 18-inch radius pizza has more “pizza” in it than the two 12-inch radius pizzas, with a total of about 3 square inches more pizza.
